Recently, we had the opportunity to work with ettitude, a sustainable lifestyle brand that specializes in organic bamboo bedding. We conducted a cradle to gate LCA, where we compared their carbon and water footprint to published results on cotton fabric. The results were impressive.
- An ettitude sheet set saves at 52% in GHG emissions over a conventional cotton sheet set; the savings is equivalent to charging 3,000 smart phones, or 3 gallons of gasoline.
- In addition, an ettitude sheet set contributes upto 500X less in water depletion than a conventional cotton sheet set, which is equivalent to over 500 showers.
Much of these reductions are thanks to ettitude’s unique bamboo lyocell process. Lyocell is well known as a plant-based fiber (historically from eucalyptus trees) that uses less water and less toxic chemicals than many other fibers. By using a lyocell process for bamboo, ettitude has pushed the envelope to make their bedding as sustainable as possible. In addition, ettitude has customized their fabric production to reuse as much water as possible during manufacturing.
Bedding is a significant industry, which uses a lot of materials during manufacturing; we were excited to work with an ethical partner like ettitude that provides luxuriously soft goods in a more sustainable way.
