Allbirds was looking to support their sustainability goals with a better understanding of their supply chain and by identifying areas to prioritize sustainable decisions.
Clean engaged internal AllBirds teams to support raw data collection, analysis, and verification, developing a multi-user product optimization tool and dashboard, based on Life Cycle Assessments of AllBirds products.
Mentioned in Forbes, the internal LCA tool allows AllBirds to analyze scenarios and estimate their product impacts based on material blends, manufacturing processes, manufacturing location, and more, for efficient sustainable decision making throughout their supply chain.
Reformation is a leading sustainable fashion line growing at an incredible rate. They invest in green building infrastructure to reduce waste, water, and energy footprints, and support their workforce with sustainability training and growth opportunities.
Reformation was looking to quantify and communicate their product impacts.
Clean pioneered early efforts to quantify and communicate impacts by creating a web-based tool based on a Cradle-to-Grave LCA performed by Clean. The tool, RefScale, shows consumers the carbon and water footprint of the product, and how impacts are reduced compared with most clothes bought in the US.
Clean assisted in the verification of their data and gave Reformation confidence in their calculations. The company has expanded RefScale to be shown to all buyers and Reformation can now clearly communicate how their products and processes reduce impacts.
Ettitude is a Climate Neutral certified lifestyle brand that specializes in organic bamboo bedding. From 2021 onwards, they have been measuring, reducing and offsetting the carbon it takes to make and deliver every Ettitude product, by offsetting their emissions through sustainable bamboo reforestation in Nicaragua.
Ettitude was looking to quantify and communicate their bamboo product impacts versus traditional cotton bedding.
Clean conducted a Cradle-to-Gate LCA, collecting and analyzing Ettitude's data to compare their carbon and water footprint of bamboo to published results on cotton fabric.
The results were impressive:
An ettitude sheet set saves at 52% in GHG emissions over a conventional cotton sheet set; the savings is equivalent to charging 3,000 smart phones, or 3 gallons of gasoline.
An ettitude sheet set contributes up to 500x less in water depletion than a conventional cotton sheet set, which is equivalent to over 500 showers.
